A Claude Project you set up once. It assesses what you actually know, teaches the gap, and holds a live conversation in your target language. Notion is its memory. Every session picks up where the last one ended.
What you get
The full Custom Instructions block for a Claude Project that runs as a language tutor. Paste it once. Point it at a Notion page. It reads that page at the start of every conversation and writes back to it at the end, so it never forgets what you already know or what to work on next.
The prompt itself is roughly 300 lines. It covers the assessing, teaching, and conversing loops, the vocabulary review queue, the honest handling of what it can and cannot see, and the exact way it should update the Notion memory so nothing drifts.
What you need first
A Claude account with Projects enabled and the Notion connector turned on. A Notion page for the tutor to write to, shared with the connection. That is the entire setup. Enable web search if you want it to check streaming catalogues for content recommendations. Enable voice mode if you want to speak with it directly.

Setup
Do these once. After that the tutor runs itself and remembers you between sessions.
- Create a new Claude Project at claude.ai/projects. Name it whatever you want — "Language tutor" is fine.
- Turn on the Notion connector in the Project's settings. The tutor uses it to read and write its memory.
- Create a Notion page the tutor will use as its memory (a blank page is fine) and share that page with the Notion connection. Connectors can only see pages that have been explicitly shared with them.
- Copy the whole instruction block below using the button, then paste it into the Project's Custom Instructions field.

Edit the
CONFIGline inside the pasted text so it points at the Notion page URL from step 3. See the callout below — this is the one step people miss. - Recommended: enable web search so material recommendations can be checked against live streaming catalogues. Optional: use voice mode during conversation sessions to get real listening and speaking practice.
Near the top of the pasted text there is a CONFIG block that contains a
NOTION PROFILE PAGE: <paste...> line. Replace <paste...>
with the full URL of the Notion page you created in step 3. If you leave the placeholder
in, the tutor will look like it is working but will have no memory across sessions.
This is the single most common install failure, and it is silent when it happens.

After pasting, open a fresh chat in the Project and say hello. The tutor will introduce itself, ask what language you are learning and what you already know, and start building the profile on the Notion page you shared.
Why this is free
